FAQ's
What services does Dear Heir offer?
Dear Heir offers five services:
Photo Legacy ($97)
Digital Audit ($397)
Account Closure ($147)
Guardian Plan ($297 per year)
Legacy Masterplan ($1,497)
Each service is delivered online, by audio only, via Google Meet.
How long does a session take?
It depends on the service. A Discovery Call is 20 minutes. A Photo Legacy session is 30 minutes. A Digital Audit or Legacy Masterplan session is 90 minutes. An Account Closure session is 60 to 90 minutes. All sessions are conducted at your pace – if we need more time, we can schedule a follow-up.
What do I receive after the session?
Within 48 hours, you receive a written document – your Digital Estate Summary or Digital Succession Portfolio, depending on the service. It is designed so that any family member can follow it, regardless of their technical ability.
How does payment work?
After you book a session, you will receive a payment request within one hour. Payment confirms your session. You then receive the Service Agreement to review and sign before the session takes place.
What is the Service Agreement?
Before every paid session, you receive a Service Agreement. It sets out exactly what Dear Heir will and will not do, the scope of your session, and the refund terms. No payment is taken until the agreement is signed. No session takes place without it.
Can I get a refund?
Every service has a clear refund policy. In general, a full refund is available if requested before the session begins. Refund terms vary by service – full details are on our Refund Policy page.
What is the Guardian Plan?
The Guardian Plan is an annual service that reviews and updates your Digital Estate Summary once a year. Your digital life changes – new accounts, new devices, platform updates. The Guardian Plan keeps your documentation current. Cancel anytime online.
Can I cancel the Guardian Plan?
Yes. You can cancel the Guardian Plan anytime, online, at dearheir.com/cancel-guardian. No phone call is required.
Can I do this myself without Dear Heir?
You absolutely can. Most people find it difficult to organise everything clearly in one place, which is why having a guided session helps. But there is no reason you cannot do it independently. We even publish free guides on our blog to help you get started.
Why does the Digital Audit cost $397?
The fee covers the 90-minute session and the written documentation your family will rely on. The Digital Estate Summary is an 8 to 12 page document that includes a complete account inventory, guidance notes, and step-by-step instructions for your family. Most clients are doing this once to avoid confusion for years.
Can Dear Heir help if I have already lost access to an account?
Dear Heir is a documentation service. We guide you through official platform settings and help you organise what you currently have. We cannot bypass platform protocols or recover access you do not currently have. If you have already lost access, we can advise on the official process for that specific platform.
Does Dear Heir provide legal or financial advice?
No. Dear Heir is a documentation and organisation service. We do not provide legal advice, financial advice, or fiduciary services. If you need legal or financial guidance, we recommend consulting a qualified professional in your state.
Is a Dear Heir session a replacement for a will?
No. A will is a legal document and Dear Heir does not produce legal documents. However, under the RUFADAA law (enacted in 47 US states), platform-specific tools like Apple Legacy Contact and Google Inactive Account Manager have the highest legal priority for digital accounts – even above a will. Dear Heir helps you set up and document these tools so your estate plan is complete.
I need help for a family member who has recently passed away. Where do I start?
We are sorry for your loss. The Account Closure service is designed for families in this situation. We guide you through closing or memorialising accounts at your pace. A full refund is available if you request it before the session begins. Start with a free Discovery Call and we will explain how we can help.
Is there a free option to start?
Yes. The Discovery Call is a free 20-minute conversation. We will talk about your situation, explain which service is right for you, and answer any questions. There is no obligation to go further.
